Creative and Unique Wedding Shower Themes

She's one of your best friends and she is getting married. Nothing will show her how much you care more than throwing a great bridal shower.

Make sure to prepare well in advance and let all of your invited guests know when the wedding shower is.

Make sure to read our article on free wedding shower games. Having a bunch of activities planned will make the day a lot more fun. Games serve as a nice ice-breaker when some or all of the guests don't know one another.

Wedding Shower Theme Idea #1 : A Fairy Tale Shower
Wedding Shower Theme Ideas
A day in the park is as relaxing as it is wonderful. This is a great bridal shower idea for many guests when you are on a tight budget. Also, consider this idea if you have many little girls to invite - they will have a blast running around the park.

Location A private area of your local park or your backyard.
Invitations Purchase handmade paper and create a mid-evil crown for each guest using a cone of heavy stock paper and a tiny bit of tulle. Handwrite "A Fairy Tale Shower" on the front cover above the veil.
Menu A decadent "Peasant's Lunch" with roasted chicken, loaves of rustic bread, a variety of cheeses, and lush, seasonal fruit. Don't forget the sparkling wine and cider!
Entertainment A CD with early classical music. To get an idea, listen to this.
Favors A small basket of fresh fruit, cheeses and crackers.
Accents
  • Wildflowers adorn picnic benches.
  • A tent can be constructed using a lightweight fabric.
  • Make a mid-evil bridal veil for the bride.
  • Name cards can be made using tiny version of the bridal veil. Roll colored card stock into a cone leaving a small hole on top. Pull tulle through the hole and knot on the inside. A toothpick can be place in the hole with each maiden's name.
  • Fairy wands for the children. Purchase wooden dowels at the hobby store. Cut out two construction paper stars and glue them together over the dowel. Apply a smear of glue and sprinkle glitter over each side. For an extra touch, print each girl's name on one side of the star
  • Wedding Shower Theme Idea # 2: A Day of Culture
    Wedding Shower Menu Ideas
An afternoon at the museum will leave all of your guests feeling like they have had a real experience. The key here is the guided tour. Take a small selected group and select a restaurant that fits in your budget. This party works best with adults.

Location The downtown museum of art or culture
Invitations Often the museum will have postcards from its upcoming or current exhibits. Ask for some and use them for the invitation to the wedding shower.
Menu Take everyone to a small, out of the way bistro.
Entertainment Sign up in advance for a guided tour. Later, at lunch, pass out note cards to each guest and ask them to write about their favorite piece (or least favorite piece).
Favors A box of postcards from the current showing.
    Accents

Place name cards on tiny wooden easels.

Wedding Shower Theme Idea # 3: Sunset at the Ranch
    Wedding Shower Invitation Ideas
Invite all of her closest friends and family to an afternoon they will never forget. Horseback riding is a fun, inexpensive activity that most people don't do very often. This party is great for kids and adults. Remind your guests to wear appropriate footwear (the ranch will let you know what is acceptable) and a knapsack of some kind.

Location A ranch that will take a group on a guided tour.
Invitations Choose invites with a sunset theme or better yet, a horsee theme! Make sure to include a map to the ranch and a detailed set of instructions for what to wear and what to bring. Often, the ranch will have regulations guests must follow. Include a version of these if available.
Menu Pack individual bag lunches of sandwiches, chips, fruit and juice. Pass out the lunches before you leave.
Entertainment Take a guided tour of your local wilderness. Stop for lunch somewhere beautiful.
Favors Pass out bandanas. If your budget allows, have them embroidered with the event name and date.
Wedding Shower Theme Idea # 4: A Lucky Potluck
    Wedding Shower entertainment Ideas
Ask each of your guests to supply a different dish - preferably something exotic. When everyone has tasted everything, take an anonymous vote for the top three dishes. The winners take home a prize.

Location Somewhere with a big oven, a microwave and plenty of counter space.
Invitations Pot-luck invites are easy to find. To avoid having all deserts or all beverages, assign an entree to each guest or to a small group of guests.
Menu Ask your guests to bring an exotic dish and serving utensils. You provide paper plates and beverages. If you are going fancy, ask your guests to bring a bottle of wine as well.
Entertainment Go all out on the prize. Announce it on the invitations and display it prominently when the guests arrive. Since you are saving on the food and wine, get together with a few other girls and invest in a nice prize. A variation may be a panel of male judges - her future hubby, her father, his father, his best friend, etc. Let them decide which dish takes the prize.
Favors Purchase Chinese take-out boxes and pack every one a small doggy-bag of left-overs to take home.
Accents Create a game-show atmosphere with a brightly decorated table and colorful name-tags.

    What do you think?

Thankyou for your "free" ideas. They are delightful. It is nice in this day of everything has a cost - that you have freely given advice to enrich our wedding plans. Thankyou

    Pat Townsend -- Thursday, August 7 2003, 02:52 pm

W'ere looking for something different and most of these ideas are immature or limiting when you have a varied guest list.

    D -- Friday, August 22 2003, 08:35 pm

These are weird ideas....my friend wouldn't like them...sorry! (but thanks anyway)

    Amber -- Monday, September 1 2003, 12:36 pm

I am attending a theme bridal shower in which the guests are giving gifts associated with their birth month and I need some help.

    Joyce -- Thursday, September 4 2003, 04:54 pm

My sister received a shower invitation and the theme is "Day of the Week". The invitation states the theme as being day of the week, something the bride could use for that day of the week. My sister received Tuesday. Can someone help with ideas? We are not quite sure how to approach the gift buying, we have never heard this shower idea before. Help??? joycon2694@yahoo.com

    Jennifer -- Thursday, September 11 2003, 02:27 am

I am throwing my sister a "pots & panties" shower, the idea is to give the bride kitchen and lingerie gifts (both sure ways to a mans' heart)!!!!

    Lizzy Fay -- Friday, September 12 2003, 11:29 pm

Thank you for your free ideas. Especially the fary tale shower. Im getting married soon and that will fit perfectly in to my theme wedding.

    Jenn -- Saturday, September 27 2003, 03:29 pm

I am thinking of doing a gift basket shower. Each person attending the shower brings a themed gift baskt (office supplies, kitchen, pasta, relax & enjoy, date night, etc). It allows each attendee to express their own style, and the bride to be gets a varitey of nice items. Creativity is the key! Good luck ladies!

    FRANCES VIVANCO -- Monday, November 3 2003, 03:56 pm

MY BRIDAL SHOWER WAS A LUA . IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. EVERYONE CAME DRESSED IN HAWAIAN ATTIRE OR FLORAL. ITS A GOOD THEME IF YOU HAVE YOUR SHOWER IN THE SUMMER

    Tiffany Martens -- Sunday, January 25 2004, 11:47 pm

I love entertaining guests so I thought of an "That's Entertainment" theme where everyone brings a gift associated with entertaining. It could be entertaining your future husband to entertaining guest for a dinner party. Use your imagination. I just hope someone takes up my idea for my shower!

    Kathie Lightfppt -- Wednesday, February 11 2004, 08:43 am

    Tiffany Oliva -- Thursday, February 19 2004, 11:57 am

I had a shower where everyone brought "something they can't live without!" it was a cute idea...everyone brought a little something and added a tid-bit to why they can't live with out that item....examples: bottle of wine w/ wine charms & glasses, low waist panty thongs, etc, dish towels and dishes...it was cute!

    Judy -- Wednesday, March 3 2004, 09:41 pm

I would like to have any idea for a theme for a Honey Do shower.

    MARCELLA THOMAS -- Friday, March 5 2004, 02:17 pm

i WOULD LIKE A PRINCESS THEM GIFTS FOR GUESTS

    Kerry -- Thursday, March 11 2004, 07:48 am

I've heard of the idea of a holiday theme shower, where the hostess tells the guests in advanced which theme to shop for. It would be a Thanksgiving Turkey platter or a selection of Christmas Tree ornaments or lingerie for Valentine's day. Everyone should try to stick to their holiday or it won't work as well.

    Patti -- Wednesday, March 24 2004, 09:18 am

My daughter is having an "Anything Lime Green" shower since it is her favorite color. A "Pajama Party" shower is also in the making. Sounds like fun

    Lisa -- Thursday, April 1 2004, 08:55 am

We're doing a "Clueless Gourmet" shower where everyone needs to bring recipe and some of the equipment needed to prepare it. (ie. cookies and fancy cookie cutters, favorite smoothie and smoothie maker, fav. grilled chicken and BBQ tools). It's a co=ed shower and this allows the guys to get creative too...mixed drinks recipe and a bender?

    Jennifer -- Friday, April 2 2004, 07:54 pm

One fun thing we did for a bride was a container shower. (probably like a gift basket shower) We asked all of the guests to bring gifts that were "containers" of some sort. She received many gifts from suitcases to tupperware. It was fun to have all of the food be container themes as well, a watermelon cut like a basket filled with fruit, etc.

    L..... -- Monday, April 12 2004, 05:50 pm

What ablout for those girls who do not like house or outside showers but prefer a catered hall or restaurant shower?

    Juliana -- Tuesday, April 13 2004, 05:04 pm

    Christy -- Monday, May 24 2004, 09:48 pm

My best friend is getting married on the beach in September, and I want to give her a shower. What theme would be appropriate for this and what ideas do you have for games and gifts?

    Rachel -- Saturday, May 29 2004, 12:03 am

I am having a Mexican theme shower. We are going to have Mexican food, decorations, including a pinata'. My guests are going to bring regular gifts but I thought it would be different than just a regular shower. We'll play mexican music and since this is mostly family we're not going to have alcohol but for the punch we are going to use lime sherburt so it will look like margaritas and we bought these brightly colored plastic margarita glasses for the guests to drink out of and take home. So I don't drive my mom totally crazy with all these bright colors I am going to have a traditional shower cake with the colors of my wedding. We will put this aside in its own little area, besides it's hard to find a wedding shower sign in bright red, green, orange, and purple.

    Claudia -- Thursday, June 10 2004, 09:54 pm

Those are great ideas, however I am doing a Beach theme for my friends bridal shower. Any ideas on the menu, favours, invitations etc!?! Thanks

    amy -- Monday, July 12 2004, 01:34 pm

Any ideas for a do-it-yourself centerpiece for beach theme wedding shower?

    Mandy -- Monday, July 12 2004, 08:48 pm

My favorite shower when I got married last year was Around The Clock Shower. Everyone has a different time of day and they bring a gift that would be used at that time. As the bride-to-be, you open the gifts and try to guess what time they had. I got all types of gifts, from a popcorn bucket filled w/ movies for 10pm, to a pancake griddle for 8am! Also, I'm in the midst of planning a shower for a friend and we're leaning towards an Alphabet shower (each guest is given a letter & you open gifts alphabetically) or an Around The House shower (each guest is given a room in the house), both are great themes!

    Bianca -- Tuesday, July 20 2004, 06:56 pm

Several years ago I went to shower where guests were to bring something for the couple to do together after they were married (i.e., movie tickets, cookbooks, games, or maybe something a little sexier). I'm having a shower/bachelorette party for a bride who doesn't want a lingerie shower and thouht the other idea might be cute. Does anyone know of a good way to word this on an inventation??

    zoe -- Thursday, August 5 2004, 04:50 pm

I'm throwing a co-ed shower at the zoo. They both love animals. For favors I'm having animal cookies wrapped in tulle. We're playing some games. There's also going to be a tram ride. If anyone has any ideas to go with this, please tell!

    angie -- Wednesday, August 25 2004, 03:57 pm

I threw a co-ed happy hour shower. everyone brought something that had to do with cocktail hour...gift certificates to restaurants, glassware, drink sets...it was fun

    Anna -- Monday, September 6 2004, 12:23 pm

This is for Amy. I had a seashore themed wedding and we purchased sand and sprinlked it on the tables along with seashells. The main centerpiece was a clear vase with sand in it to hold a taper candle in place. We also made chocalte seashell candies.

    Robin -- Tuesday, September 7 2004, 10:56 am

I have hosted 2 entertainment showers, both co-ed. Lots of fun. Couples received everything from bbq tools to electric ice cream freezers to board games and margarita glasses. I also received (And have hosted several) paper showers where all the gifts must be made of paper. Got everything from stamps and thank you cards to cookbooks to toilet paper.Loads of fun and can be quite cheap.

    Kathy -- Sunday, September 12 2004, 10:01 pm

I am hosting a wedding shower for and older couple that has everything. The shower is going to be held at a tea room. I was thinking of the idea someone had to purchase items they can do together after married. Any ideas how to word that on the invitation. Any other ideas on a themed shower for the couple that has most everything. Please email at rightboat@aol.

    susie -- Monday, September 13 2004, 03:49 am

I will be hosting a wedding or bridal shower for my sister. Story goes... she and her fiance lives in Seattle, WA; while all of us (bride's family) lives in California and her fiance's family lives in Hawaii. Anyway, the wedding is set to be in Hawaii because that's where the groom was born and raised and simply for the fact that Hawaii is just a very beautiful island to get married in. My problem is, how should I host this shower? Fly her to California a month prior to her wedding, or should I fly to Seattle and throw her the shower there, or should I wait one week before the wedding in Hawaii? I'm just lost. Please Please Please help me fix this situation. I will gladly appreciate all your help. sueannmolina@yahoo.com

    LORETTA -- Saturday, September 18 2004, 07:27 pm

My niece is getting married in March in Ohio...not our prettiest time of the year. Her shower will need to be in January. The girls would like a theme shower. Any brilliant ideas? Tweetie1808@hotmail.com

    Roz -- Saturday, September 25 2004, 02:49 am

I am planning a shower for my soon-to-be sister-in-law in February. She's an accomplished musician, and doesn't have any other hobbies except for music. I'd love to throw her a wonderful theme shower, but I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Mary -- Wednesday, September 29 2004, 04:49 pm

Cute idea -- have a panty themed shower -- each guest can bring a sexy pair of panties in addition to their gift and you can hang them on a clothes line -- I am doing it for my sister.

    Jodie -- Friday, October 1 2004, 10:46 am

I would like information on the pots & panties shower, that sounds fun.

    Shana -- Thursday, October 7 2004, 12:45 am

I am throwing a "tea party" themed shower at the end of October. It has everything girls love - frilly stuff, friends, and food! I also read an idea - for the music lover - about a "concert shower" where you and the other attendees chip in to buy a block of tickets to a concert or musical and then go out to a restaurant afterwards and talk about it. A little unorthodox, but may be perfect for the music lover.

    Karen -- Monday, October 11 2004, 09:16 am

Susie, I gave a wedding shower for my niece with similar logistical issues that you have (her wedding in a remote rural place only her parents lived in; nearest family 300 miles - including me - and some family up to 2 thousand miles away). I gave the shower the Thursday before the wedding; then we had the rehearsal and dinner on Fri., and the wedding on Sat. It was a lot in a short time, but worked beautifully. We mailed the invites earlier than you usually would for a shower so people could make appropriate travel plans. All the key people (some from thousands of miles away) were there and it was loads and loads of fun. A much less "formal" celebration than the next two days, so also a nice way to focus some of the nervous energy everyone has at that point. Karen

    Jan -- Friday, October 22 2004, 08:29 pm

My nephew is getting married in early April.Instead of games we do a simple craft at our showers. In the past we made garden stepping stones and deocoupaged paper mache boxes. This time I think we will do something with beads, maybe a bracelet.

    Melissa -- Sunday, October 24 2004, 01:37 am

We are throwing a "picture" themed shower. Each guest is asked to bring a picture of me or my fiance with them. Little do they know, but all the pictures we collect are going to be used as part of the centerpieces at our wedding. The whole wedding is based on a picture theme. Our invitations have our picture on them, we are having our guests sign a 16" x 20" mat frame as our guest book, our thank you cards will be a picture of us.

    Misty -- Monday, October 25 2004, 01:02 am

I have just gotten started on planning my wedding and I think that I am going to go with red. I am getting married in October and I need some ideas on decorations. No pumpkins please.

worst ideas i have ever heard of

    Kristen -- Friday, October 29 2004, 06:40 pm

My bridesmaids threw me the best shower! Since my husband and I met on St. Patrick's Day and we got married a few days before Christmas, they had a holiday theme. Each room of the house, in which the shower was thrown, was decorated for a different holiday. The wishing well gifts were all decorations from various holidays to help my husband and I decorate our new home together. We were fully stocked with decorations for every major holiday! Not to mention, they put all the wishing well gifts under a mini Christmas tree! It was amazing!

    LeAnn -- Monday, November 15 2004, 12:57 am

I am attending the around the clock theme shower and was wondering if anyone can give me ideas on some gifts for the afternoon. thanks

    Angela -- Wednesday, November 17 2004, 06:20 pm

LeAnn, What about cooking utnesils or cookbooks or even pots and pans. Prpearing dinner is usually an afternnon event. Hope this helps!

    Melody -- Thursday, November 18 2004, 08:58 am

The best wedding shower I ever attended was 2 years ago. It was a mystery shower, like those mystery dinner theaters that have become so popular. The groom paid for the host as his gift to the bride, and we had the most fun I have ever had at a shower. Acting out our assigned roles and trying to solve the "who done it" was way better than those "ho hum" shower games we have all seen a thousand times!!

    Gracie -- Sunday, November 28 2004, 01:25 pm

my sister is getting married and she says she has everything she needs..how do you word an invitation to say "no gifts, just money", she also will be flying to the location of the shower because she lives far away from the family, so she won't have room to take gifts on the plane!!

    Kelly -- Wednesday, December 1 2004, 04:31 pm

I have been a bridesmaid or matron of honour several times and I always tend to give the same themed shower a "time of day" shower. This is when you include a time of day in the invitation and the guest must buy something that the bride would use at that specific time (ie. noon - placemats and a sandwich maker). It's a fun theme and the bride is sure to get plenty of different items (no duplicates).

    Shea -- Thursday, December 23 2004, 03:50 pm

Some good ideas! I am maid of honor for the first time for my best friend from college. I am looking at themes that are fun & sexy but not to much for mothers & grandparents who will attend. "Sex in the Kitchen"(people bring gifts related from kitchen gadgets & recipes to lingerie & toys) or even "Pots to Panties" is this to much for the parents.

    Rana -- Wednesday, December 29 2004, 01:49 pm

Hello I am searching for help on favor ideas for my guests color red and black for an evening wedding cinderella or a horse and carriage type theme...help wedding 2months agao does anyone have any suggestions email me at ntgreenwood@cablevision.com

    Kaitlyn -- Tuesday, January 4 2005, 02:21 pm

To Rana-I made wine charms for my favors...they went over really well. I found some hoops (like earring hoops) at Hobby Lobby and put beads onto the hoops. I then tied a couple of wine charms together with a peice of thin fancy ribbon. It really dresses up the tables and guests love wine!

    GALE -- Monday, January 10 2005, 11:41 am

I am giving my daughter a bridal shower in a couple of weeks. She lives in Washington State and will travel to Indiana for the shower. They are flying in and have no way to transport alot of gifts. What is the proper way to ask for money or gift cards? We are having the shower at a Bed & Breakfast location (Brunch). I need your help!!

    Tara -- Wednesday, January 12 2005, 01:22 am

I'm trying to think of a unique theme for the bridal shower I'm throwing for my best friend. I wanted to incorporate something that she loves. She has a pug named Darla that is totally her baby, so I was thinking of having a bring-your-dog shower. I'm not sure if this would turn into total caos, or if it sounds do-able. I want to host a "tea" for my granddaughter. We would invite the "fairer sex" on both sides of the familie.. I think this is a grand way for us all to meet. Folks will want to bring a small gift, I am sure. Any suggestions? I like the "paper" idea somone wrote about.

Here's my plan for my sister's BEACH WEDDING SHOWER... Play Beach Boys & Bob Marley music, hand out flower lai's to the guests, serve fresh pineapple, jerk chicken, Hawaiian bread, and fruity drinks. Decorate with sand, and goldfish, floating candles, seashells and have everyone come dressing in floral clothing no matter what the season!

    Steph -- Thursday, January 27 2005, 07:09 pm

    Janet,

Its hard to ask guests to just bring money. Why not ask for gift cards? That way the bride is still getting money she could use but you are not straight up asking for it. You could even send out inviations that are bigger than gift cards but look like them. Also, you can gear the shower more towards shopping. Have all the guests bring the gift certificates in elaborate shopping bags that are way to big for the little card inside. This is cheap for the guest. They don't have to spend the money on wrapping. You might want to send a list of places the bride likes to shop though. You could call the shower..."A Shower all in the Cards." Maybe you should work on the name.

Hi, I am a surfer boy and student from Peru, I grew up on a beach in Peru Called Costa Verde which is warm in the summer and cold in winter. The waves are mostly point breaks with really long rights and lefts.

I visit alots of places in Peru, so i can tell you the food is great we have great beaches north of lima, like mancora, chicama, pacasmayo with great waves chicama has for me the longest wave in the world, 43 kilometers south of lima you can find pico alto with waves from 8 to 10 meters. n -- Saturday, February 26 2005, 11:11 am

a great shower idea is "there's a first time for everything" shower and each guest receives a "first time" theme such as first fight, first bbq, first hangover, first christmas, first time the groom comes home late from work... and the people must get gifts to match the theme they receive. You can get really creative with the themes and the gifts!!

    niki -- Monday, April 4 2005, 11:41 pm

If it is a fun group, you could go with "Take the Plunge" theme. You could decorate a plunger for her to carry or hold on to at the shower. Paint it white add tulle or ribbon and glue a bride and groom to the top. Invitations could be printed on the bottom of flip flops or use decorated flip flops as favors for the guests. just a thought for something fun and different.

Also how do I state on the ivitations about gifts? They are owners of a new home that need alot of TLC. Gift cards to the local Home Depot would be great for them.

    June -- Monday, April 18 2005, 09:39 am

One way to ask for money is to discretely write "Presentation" on the invitation. I find it rather tacky to ask for money though. I realize that we are wanting to "shower" the bride with gifts, but if the couple already has "everything", why not just make the shower a celebration of the upcoming marriage, a time for family and friends to get together ahead of the wedding. Other options could be to ask guests to make donations to charities in the couple's names or, as previously suggested, gifts could be things for the couple to do after the wedding (movie, ballet, concert, theatre tickets, restaurant gift certs, golf packages, etc.) A Wine/Stock the Bar shower or a Recipe shower could also work for someone who has everything. For people travelling, group gifts could cut down on luggage. I just think that there are plenty of options other than asking for cash.

I know this sounds silly, but I went to a shower that was themed "Couples Firsts" I thought it was so stupid until I saw the variety of gifts they got. From Stockings for christmas, a beautiful cake platter for the first birthday, to gardening things and laundry stuff for their first laundry day. They got alot of useful stuff!

    Cheryl -- Saturday, May 7 2005, 07:44 am

We are giving a shower for a bride who has her own house but needs living room furniture. Our theme is the #10 envelope shower and Brunch. Write the brides and groom name in appropriate place of invite. This is how we wrote it up: Bride and Groom will be making their home in Paradise! A "saver" of all useful items is what Bride likes - to add spice The Living room is lacking in essential flair We would like to help her at least with a chair Our #10 envelope is for any cash you can spare You may also add something else you wish to share. The more creative, the more fun it will be We can hear the laughter; can't you see the Bride retelling of the #10 bridal shower Oh gee!!!

Please join us in showering our bride-to-be (name) with love and best wishes at a #10 envelope Bridal Shower and Brunch date time place address hosted by rsvp

    Angela -- Sunday, May 15 2005, 10:37 am

I'm giving my Mom a shower next month. Both she and her fiance are widowed and have so many household items to combine, that a "typical" bridal shower didn't make sense. We're having a "FOR YOUR WEDDING" shower. We're asking everyone to provide items needed for the wedding and reception such as the cake topper, paper plates, napkins, mints, toasting glasses, cake server, etc. I've never heard of it being done, but hope it goes well!

    Mandy -- Sunday, June 12 2005, 11:37 pm

Jacqui, I did a "recipe" shower for my sister in law...each guest was asked to share their favourite recipe (i included the recipe card in the invitation) and supply some of the necessary parts to create the recipe. She got everything from cake pans and oven mitts, to a strainer and a box of maccaroni. It went over really well...she got stuff she could use and the guests (many of whom did not know the bride well) had a "direction" for buying gifts.

    Joyce -- Monday, June 13 2005, 01:12 pm

I was recently at a shower and saw this gift be given to the bride. It was a really nice basket of candles with the following poem. The briide read the poem while taking everything out of the basket... by the time she got to the baby one, all the women there were in tears.... Great idea if you have a close friend that is getting married! She received pairs of candles for each sentence... Some were tapers, others were just large candles...

The WHITE ones burn first, covered in lace, to celebrate the first night in your new chosen place.

The BURGUNDY candles are taller and thinner; they are to burn with your first company for dinner.

The BLUE candles are for your first fight. Use them to burn when making up at night.

The PINK candles will pave the way for your first married Valentine's Day.

There are candles to burn on Christmas Eve before bed, your first one together, that's why they are RED.

When your first year is through, light the CREAM anniversary pair for the two of you.

We hope that maybe, you can burn the YELLOW ones for the birth of your new baby.

Use the LIGHT BLUE candles for the fifth anniversary day.

SILVER is for the big 25 that will keep you alive.

I am hosting a wedding shower for my daughter. She lives in Spokane, Wa. and we all live in Warren, Pa. She will not be here for the shower so I am having it video taped for her to enjoy. Because of the shipping and possible breakage of gifts, it is going to be a Gift-Card shower. On the invitaion I included the stores that she shops at most and that we have here. I also listed the stores she is register at on-line. The guests were also asked to bring their favorite recipe or a kitchen gadget. It is a Hawaiian Theme with all the colorful glasses which the guests can take home with them along with a lai. All fruity drinks and snacks along with chicken salad on cresants. I think it will be loads of fun.

A couple of good family friends are throwing my bridal shower and they just told me their fun theme that goes along with a lot of the ones talked about on here as far as a shower for giving the couple things to do after they get married. The theme is The Fun Never Stops and they have gift ideas from movies, games, picnic, camping to whatever else the theme name may conjur up in the guests mind. I know some friends will provide some fun more intimate gifts for The Fun Never Stops. I am excited for the whole shower.

    thanks

    Maria -- Monday, July 18 2005, 10:44 pm

I was wondering what kind of an idea you may have on a secong marriage wedding shower. I know this may not be typical but she never had one to begin with. They do not need any things persay but alway appreciate the thought, for their wedding they are doing the 'donate in our name' thing. Small party, for all ages (She has children who will be attending and it is a surprise) any ideas would be greatly appreicated.

Tara, I read you were thinking about a "bring-your-dog shower". I kind of like that idea.I am the MOH for my sister she just got engaged . Her futer hubby for their first christmas together bought her a puppy well its become their "son" and he wanted their "son" to be in the wedding. But She can't have a outdoor wedding so their "son" can't be in the wedding so after reading your idea that would at least make him apart of something. So Did it work out?

    PJ -- Saturday, July 30 2005, 11:56 am

For the couple that just purchased a home in need of TLC - Have a "Extreme Home Makeover" party. Give a little history of the home, maybe even a picture of some areas really in need of help. Have everyone come dressed in jeans and flannel shirts. . . Provide yellow plastic "hard hats" for guests and bandanas.

In the invite, suggest guests bring a picture of a magazine of their idea for the couple's home. Suggested gifts could be tools, primer paint, paint brushes/buckets, gift cards, wall paper tools, pipe wrench, level/laser level, etc.

You could have an "Under Construction" shower, with yellow keep out tape as decorations, place gifts on a decorated step ladder, have the bride wear a tool belt and then provide gifts to fill the tool belt, have a jar full of nails and have game to guess how many nails in the jar. (All decorations go to the couple). Have a huge picture of Ty from EHM show and play pin the hammer in Ty's hand, or pin the sweat band on his head, etc. The cake could be a house "under construction."

I think this would be so much fun!

    PJ -- Saturday, July 30 2005, 12:01 pm

Now I need some ideas -- I'm having an Alice in Wonderland themed shower (same as wedding) - any ideas for me? It seems Disney has this movie "in the wault" and I am having trouble locating things related.

    Trish -- Friday, August 5 2005, 12:09 pm

Okay girls, I loved the Wine Poem idea. I took the candle poem and changed it for Wine. Here it is!

A basket of wine, for the perfect pair. Donned in all different colors, for you two to share.

Drink the Champagne first, it is wrapped in Lace, To celebrate your first married night, in your new chosen place.

Next comes the Green one, you must wait to unseal, Until you have your first company over for a meal.

Love as you might you will have your first fight, Drink the Navy one while making up all night.

The color Purple will set the mood, and help pave the way, For a very romantic first Valentine’s Day.

Now, when your first year of marriage is through, The Red Anniversary bottle will be there for you.

Orange like fire, both your futures are bright, Celebrate promotions, for which you’ve worked hard with all you’re might.

By this time, we hope maybe – you can drink the Pink and Blue one with the news of expecting a new baby. (Don’t worry it’s sparkling cider)

And just when you thought you’d put these away, Take the Cream one out for your 5th Anniversary day.

Now there is just one more left-for the big 25, the Silver Anniversary bottle that will keep your love alive.

Congratulations to Katie and Wayne, On the start of your forever. May the two of you always be happy wed, Remember to share this wine just the way we said.

    What do you think?

You can also have the girls buy the bead and they can give them away to guys that are willing to show it off!

My daughter lives in Europe and will be visiting us several months before her wedding. I want to give her a shower but she will be unable to bring the gifts back to Europe. A "Gift Card" shower won't work because the department stores are different than ours. I saw some comments on a #10 envelope shower. How do you word the invitation so people know what that is. Thanks.

    Julie -- Wednesday, October 5 2005, 05:17 pm

Our bride elect was moving into his bachelor decorated house. So I came up with the idea of a Woman's Touch Bridal Shower. I created this poem. Love as Sweet as, Love's first Kiss, Will soon Transform, Into Wedded Bliss, Only one Problem, For Her to Face, Residing In, A Bachelor's Place, Too Much, too "Bare", the Decor is Rough, In Desperate Need, of a Woman's Touch. I used an invitation kit with the famous little boy, little girl kiss and flower. So cute! I asked the ladies to come prepared with their favorite "Woman's touch" story and to try and get her an item related to it. I'm going to use the candle box and poem idea above.

My sister in law is getting married this summer, and is having a fairy tale wedding. Thank you for the free ideas! It helps alot with the shower ideas! Its only fitting to have a fairy tale shower, but ideas for actually doing it was getting tough!

Ginny - I've never done a bridal shower by mail, but we did a baby shower by mail for some friends who had recently moved from Alabama to Arizona. It was a really big hit. Depending on where everyone you would invite is located, you could have a party at your house and package the gifts together, and have everyone who attends sign a picture frame mat with well wishes to be included in the package, or something along those lines - or maybe make a video where all of the guests send their wishes and include it.

It may be too late for this - but from far away you can host a "#10 envelope shower" where everyone sernds a gift that has to fit in a #10 envelope. Collect all the envelopes, then present to her in person and video-tape her opening them.

For those of you asking about "money only" gifts...I have always read that there is NO polite way to ask for money and that it should not be done under any circumstances. Let guests bring the gifts that they want to give you...not the gifts you want to receive.

    -- Thursday, February 23 2006, 03:32 pm

I agree that asking for money is horrible!!!

Some shower ideas for brides who do not need a bunch of household items like they'd get for an around the clock/house shower:

Picture frame/album shower: Everyone picks out cute/pretty/funny frames and albums for the couple. People could even decorate small frames with rhinestones, etc, as an activity at the shower and keep them as wedding favors, maybe mail each guest a picture of themselves with the bride at the shower with the thank yous to put in the frame. It's practical too, since a new bride needs plenty of frames and albums. With this, I like the idea of getting a large frame with matting, having each guest sign the matting with a wish for the bride, and then taking a picture with all of the party guests to put in it. It would be a great way for the bride to remember her fun shower (sort of like a cool guestbook).

Or, my sister is having a "Romance" themed shower next weekend. People can be pretty creative with this.

Another idea would be a "naughty or nice" shower, where each guest could get something a little naughty and something nice (lingerie/pajamas, a book of positions/a book of romantic poetry, etc.)

These are things I've just thought of because someone on a different page needed advice.

I'm a bridesmaid and I am helping with organizing the bridal shower. We're 90% sure it's going to be a Hawaiin/Luau themed. I just need some ideas on any sort of games we can play. I also need some help on getting shower favors, decorations, etc. Anyone know a good website to get that from?

I absolutely loved the "candle poem" idea! My daughter's best-friend is getting married next week. I lined a basket, trimmed it with lace, added a few white doves and got the candles on sale at Yankee candle. For under $20 I have a unique, thoughtful gift. Thank you so much for the idea!!

I have several creative shower ideas (some have already been mentioned)

-around the clock shower (guests are each given a time of day and bring an appropriate gift) -rooms of the house (each guest is given a room) -recipe shower (guests are asked to bring a copy of their favorite recipe to make a book for the couple, and something needed to make the recipe) -holiday themed (guests bring decorations or anything appropriate for that holiday) -patio party (anything useful on a patio, bbq set, table cloth...) -green, green, greenery (gardening tools, seeds, fake plants) -travel, honeymoon (luggage, shaving kit) -library (favorite books... great if the couple loves to read) -water shower (anything associated with the word water... pitchers, umbrellas, waterford crystal) -tool and gadget (hammer, clock, flashlight) -scrapbook (each guests brings a scrapbook tool and they create pages together) -activity (movie tickets, games, deck of cards) -around the world (each guest is given a diff county and must bring something associated with that country)

hope this gives you some ideas... let me know what you think!

For those of you doing a tropical theme, I used floating starfish candles; globes on the tables with sand, shells and candles inside; I also put a little sand on the tables and laid shells in the sand. (This was practical because we put up a tent.) I bought a couple palms to sit around the patio; put the food on plastic fish dishes from the dollar store; and played tropical background music; We had a pig roast and it was in the evening with little strings of white lights in the bushes and trees. The key was the lights. We had them everywhere and it looked amazing. Everyone wore tropical clothing and it looked awesome. Everyone said it was the greatest party. This was for my son's dinner rehearsal but could be adapted to a shower.

    Linda -- Tuesday, March 21 2006, 06:57 pm

I gave my niece a beautiful bridesmaid luncheon. We went to a local "tea house" any cute luncheon place would do also. I brought flowers for the tables to add a special touch. (Cut flowers from the grocery placed in my own vases or pitchers.) I also printed up the menu (we chose the lunch ahead of time) on wedding cards purchased from the computer store and got matching place cards, the computer did the rest. I purchased small cardboard wedding boxes and for the wedding party I also went to Marshal's (discount dept store) & got very small heart shaped bowls (ramikns size) and filled with antique hankies, small wedding candy from wedding store (just a few) a small package of wedding tissue (from any nice gift shop), a few silver kisses candy, and lined it with heart shaped paper dollies. Not expensive but very nice and the attention to detail made these little favors and helped create the wedding theme for the room. I gave the bride to be a larger heart shaped dish. These heart dishes are many times on sale. Hope this gives someone a few ideas. Having the personalized computer menus and name place holders was a big hit and easy to do!

I have another niece getting married. She is having a destination wedding in Mexico with only the immediate family attending. I'd like to give a Mexican Kitchen Wedding shower. Any ideas on games, decorations, favors, etc. Also does anyone still follow the tradition that when you play a game at the shower the winner gets the prize and presents it to the honoree, in this case the bride to be? Thanks to the virtual properties of an electronic archive, you can also do a computer search of all the obituary notices to look for specific words, and so check for specific patterns and features in the way his times valued MT. snickersonline co uk It's interesting, for example, to see whether "Tom" or "Huck" is mentioned the most - and what other characters and novels are singled out.

I'm getting married in September and my sister is starting to plan the shower which is also going to turn into a bachelor(ette) party. Since my fiance and I already have a house full of stuff, we are looking for money instead of gifts. I want my guest to have the option to buy a gift if they should choose. Our theme is "Send us on our honeymoon" any gift suggestions? Email me at angelbear73@hotmail.com.

    Holly Ella -- Tuesday, May 23 2006, 01:18 am

I'm hosting a bridal party and orinalyl the bride to be wanted a langerie theme. The idea was too fincky with return policies and exchange. So instead I had everyone bring $20.00 to the shower and I went out and bought her a girt card to a langerie store, and a gift certificate to have a french manicure and pedicure done. Now she can buy whatever she wants for under her dress and her honeymoon or just because. We raised over $500.00 for her, boy was she happy.

    Holly Ella -- Tuesday, May 23 2006, 01:21 am

added comment. The guests were very happy about the inexpensiveness of the shower as well because they have a tendency to get a little pricey. In fact I think more people attended because of that reason.
